Google Ads vs Facebook Ads: Which Is Better for Dubai Businesses?
Search ads or social ads? A clear comparison of Google Ads and Facebook and Instagram ads for Dubai businesses, with practical advice on when to use each.

If you are planning to advertise your Dubai business online, the first big decision is usually Google Ads or Facebook Ads (which also covers Instagram). Both can bring customers, but they work in very different ways. This guide explains the difference, when each platform makes sense and how many businesses combine them.
The key difference: intent vs interest
Google Ads shows your ad to people who are actively searching for something, for example “emergency plumber Dubai Marina” or “web design company Dubai”. They already have a need, and your ad appears at the moment they look for a solution.
Facebook and Instagram ads (run through Meta Ads Manager) show your ad to people based on who they are: where they live, their interests and how they have interacted with your business before. They are not searching for you, so your ad needs to catch their attention and create interest.
Neither is “better” in general. The right choice depends on what you sell and what you want the ad to achieve.
When Google Ads is usually the better fit
- Your customers search for your service when they need it (repairs, clinics, legal, home services, B2B services)
- Needs are urgent or high-intent, so speed matters
- You want phone calls and enquiries from people ready to buy
- Your service is hard to show visually but easy to search for
Google Ads works especially well with precise location targeting. A clinic in Al Barsha, for example, can focus on searches from nearby communities rather than the whole of Dubai.
When Facebook and Instagram ads are usually the better fit
- Your product or service is visual: restaurants, salons, spas, fashion, real estate, events
- You want to promote an offer, launch or event to people nearby
- Your customers prefer to message on WhatsApp before buying
- You want to build awareness for something people do not search for yet
- You want to retarget people who visited your website or watched your videos
Click-to-WhatsApp campaigns are particularly useful in Dubai, where many customers would rather send a quick message than fill in a form. Meta explains campaign objectives and policies in its Business Help Centre.
Side-by-side comparison
| Google Ads | Facebook & Instagram Ads | |
|---|---|---|
| How people find you | Searching for a service | Scrolling their feed, Stories or Reels |
| Strength | High purchase intent | Visual reach and awareness |
| Targeting | Keywords + location | Location, interests, custom audiences |
| Best formats | Text search ads with call and location assets | Images, carousels, short videos, reels |
| Typical goal | Calls and enquiries | Messages, leads, offer awareness |
| Creative effort | Strong ad copy and landing page | Fresh visuals and video needed regularly |
What matters on both platforms
Whichever platform you choose, the same fundamentals decide whether your budget turns into customers:
- Conversion tracking: set up tracking for calls, WhatsApp clicks and forms, so you judge campaigns on enquiries rather than clicks. Google explains the setup in its conversion tracking guide.
- A focused landing page: send visitors to a page that matches the ad, loads fast on mobile and makes contacting you effortless.
- Location targeting: show ads where your customers actually are, not across the whole UAE by default.
- Ongoing optimisation: review search terms, audiences and creatives regularly, and move budget to what works.
- Account ownership: make sure the ad accounts are in your business name.
How to set a starting budget and test fairly
A common mistake is to spend a small amount for a few days, see no results and decide that a platform “does not work”. Both Google and Meta need time and data to learn which people respond to your ads. A fairer test looks like this:
- Decide what a lead is worth to your business, based on your average sale and how many enquiries usually turn into customers
- Set a test budget you are comfortable with for at least several weeks, rather than a few days
- Keep the test focused: one or two services, a clear offer and the Dubai areas you most want to reach
- Make sure tracking works before launch, so every call, WhatsApp click and form is counted
- Change one thing at a time, such as the audience, ad copy or landing page, so you know what made the difference
At the end of the test, compare the cost per enquiry on each platform with the value of a customer. That number, not clicks or likes, tells you where to put more budget.
Using Google Ads and Facebook Ads together
Many Dubai businesses get the best results by using both platforms for different jobs. A common approach is to run Google Ads to capture people actively searching for your service, while using Facebook and Instagram ads to promote offers, build awareness in your area and retarget website visitors who did not enquire the first time. Because the two platforms reach people at different stages, they tend to support each other rather than compete.
If your budget is limited, start with the platform that best matches how your customers buy: search-driven services usually start with Google, visual and offer-driven businesses usually start with Meta. Once you have reliable tracking and a campaign that brings enquiries, test the other platform.
